What is this session about?

We will cover the basics of managing a lease and working with your landlord to manage your premises safely and sustainably. Avoid misunderstandings, achieve good communication and save money. This 2 hour online seminar will help you understand:

  • your landlord’s priorities
  • what a lease is and how it differs from a licence or tenancy-at-will
  • legal jargon and typical lease obligations for both landlord and tenant
  • common documents in negotiating a lease
  • key clauses in your lease: including rent reviews, notice periods, break clauses, repairs, and assignment

Who are the trainers?

Sue Boyall, LLB Partner at Excello Law, is a highly experienced real estate specialist with over 25 years in private practice. Sue is a supporter of LawWorks, a free legal service, and is also a part-time law lecturer.

Roger Annis MRICS, Associate Property Adviser is a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) with 35 years’ experience in the acquisition and disposal of commercial properties. Roger has worked with Ethical Property Foundation since 2018 and has wide experience of helping charities with their property strategies.

The Ethical Property Foundation is the go-to property advice charity supporting the voluntary sector. Incorporated in 2003, it is the lead referral partner to the Charity Commission for land and property advice.

Flude Property Consultants is a firm of Chartered Surveyors who specialise in advising clients with commercial property interests. Our main areas of expertise are commercial property agency, lease advisory (rent reviews, lease renewals and lease re-gears), property management, valuation and rating.
