We are collaborating with violence prevention charity Protection Approaches to bring you this free 2 hour interactive course to explore how you can safely address identity-based harms in your community or workplace.

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to discuss how to actively reduce harm in the face of prejudice, harassment or hate crimes. Through discussing scenarios – such as racist remarks in public spaces, inappropriate comments at work, or harassment on public transport – participants gain practical tools to respond safely and effectively.

You will learn:

  • What it means to be an active bystander: through group discussion you’ll explore what being an active bystander means to you
  • Standing up for those being targeted safely: working through a series of scenarios, you’ll consider and learn what you can do when you encounter identity-based harms such as harassment on public transport, a racist attack in a supermarket, or a prejudiced comment from a colleague
  • Proactive prevention: returning to the scenarios you’ll reflect on the root causes of prejudice and discrimination before discussing ways you could contribute to dismantling those root causes and to building safer, more inclusive, and just communities.
