Attendees had the valuable opportunity to connect and share with other groups working in health and social care in Brighton and Hove.

The event was delivered in collaboration with the Sussex VCSE Leaders Alliance (SVLA), highlighting the shared commitment to reducing health inequalities through cross-sector engagement.

Speaker Kate Gilchrist, Head of Public Health Intelligence and Research, Brighton & Hove City Council, presented the findings of the Health Counts survey, which gave insights into health inequalities across Brighton and Hove. During a workshop attendees reflected on the findings and discussed them with their peers.  Their discussion contributions will be considered by Integrated Care Teams (ICTs) in developing their action plans to reduce inequalities.

Chas Walker, Joint Programme Director of Integrated Service Transformation, Brighton & Hove City Council and NHS Sussex gave an update on ICTsand on how the Health Counts data will be used. Tara Cahill, Research Officer, from Brighton & Hove City Council – Public Health Intelligence Team introduced the NIHR Grassroots Awards.

One attendee commented: “I learnt a lot from the Health Counts findings. I am very interested to look further into this and find out more. It is very much what my team should be looking at in their work.”

Health Counts is a health and wellbeing survey conducted once every decade in Brighton and Hove to inform policy. It provides important evidence of health inequalities in parts of the city and faced by particular groups.
