About Stonewater

The BME Domestic Abuse Capacity Building Programme, commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council and delivered by Stonewater, is a SafeLives Leading Lights accredited service, providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and intersectional support to survivors from Black and Minority Ethnic, minoritised, and marginalised communities across the city. Based within Brighton & Hove Refuge and operating city-wide, we offer both direct and indirect interventions to ensure no one is excluded. We work with survivors of all genders aged 16+, at any risk level (high, medium, or low), including those facing complex, multi-perpetrator abuse. Our service is free and accessible regardless of immigration status, language, disability, addiction, mental health, or other barriers. We support survivors of all forms of abuse, including domestic abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, honour-based abuse, forced marriage, female genital mutilation (FGM), modern slavery, trafficking, sexual exploitation, gang-related harm, and other harmful practices. Our specialist provision includes culturally informed IDVA support, direct and indirect interventions, crisis intervention, safeguarding, personalised safety planning, MARAC referrals and representation, survivor-led advocacy, bespoke support planning, and signposting or referrals to specialist services, multi-agency collaboration, support with refuge accommodation, professional training and workshops, alongside survivor-led, awareness-raising interactive initiatives. Our drop-in sessions provide a safe, confidential space to connect with culturally informed IDVAs. Referrals are welcome from survivors themselves, professionals, and all statutory and non-statutory agencies.
