As the Sompting Big Local Project draws to a close, a new report details the work that has been achieved.

In 2012, Sompting was selected as one of just 150 areas across England to receive £1.2 million in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund (TNLCF). The initiative aimed to empower local residents with the resources and decision-making ability to shape and improve their own communities.

Over the past 13 years, this funding has helped deliver a remarkable legacy in the village of Sompting, West Sussex.

You can read a detailed report on the project, prepared by Community Development Officer Emma Crowter, via the link below.

Some of the amazing key achievements include:

  • The Sompting Big Local Hub, that gave a a space to and supported over 25 local groups
  • A minibus service that enabled 7543 passenger journeys
  • 20+ free community events
  • £250,000 invested in local green spaces
  • An action fund of £150,000+ which has funded 70+ grassroots projects
  • Projects and sessions for young people
  • Recovery, wellbeing and resilience projects
  • First aid

The effects of the project will be felt by generations to come. Certain partnerships, such as the collaboration with Sid Youth (keep an eye on our What’s New page and our newsletter for details), will continue.
