Brighton and Hove community resilience project update
This month our community resilience partnership project focusses on the risk of fire.
Community Works is delivering a project to help Brighton and Hove communities prepare for risks they might face. The project is run in collaboration with the Trust for Developing Communities (TDC) and the Hangleton & Knoll Project. This month’s focus is on fire.
The project is funded by the Sussex Resilience Forum and aims to ensure that people in Brighton & Hove are prepared for potential emergencies and that communities are resilient.
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service offer a variety of support and resources available:
- Home Safety Visit – a free check from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service to help make your home safer from fire, with advice and equipment provided if needed.
- Home Safety Booklet – practical advice on fire prevention, smoke alarms, escape plans, and wider safety and wellbeing topics to help people stay safe at home.
- Child Home Safety Advice and Equipment Service offers families safety advice and, for eligible low-income households with children under 5, free equipment like stair gates, cupboard locks and fireguards to help prevent accidents at home.
- Free Introduction to Business Fire Safety course – a half-day session for employers and business managers, covering fire safety law, risk assessments, prevention, and practical guidance to use in the workplace
