Building connected, inclusive communities
Read about our event as part of our Communities Together project in partnership with Adur Voluntary Action
VCSE organisations from Adur and Worthing gathered yesterday to network and hear from speakers from organisations working to help build connection, inclusion and belonging across Adur and Worthing.
Adur Voluntary Action (AVA) and Community Works (CW) have developed the Communities Together project.
Funded by the Adur & Worthing Councils’ Thriving Together Grant Fund, the project brings together local voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to share experiences, build partnerships and explore how equity, diversity and inclusion can become part of everyday practice.
The event featured sessions from:
- Bud Johnston and Annie Whilby of Black Anti-Racism Community Organisation (BARCO), sharing its ‘joy as resistance’ approach to building belonging and meaningful community engagement.
- Ben Dew of Allsorts Youth Project, introducing LGBTQ+ awareness and allyship.
- Emma Edwards of Esteem, exploring neurodiversity, accessible communication and creating inclusive environments with young adults.

Attendees also networked over lunch, which provided an opportunity for local organisations to connect, exchange ideas and develop relationships that support more welcoming, inclusive and resilient communities across Adur and Worthing.
